Every woman has the right to quality healthcare, adequate nutrition, and a safe, dignified childbirth — awareness that starts long before delivery day.
Safe motherhood is an important component of maternal and child health. National Safe Motherhood Day is observed annually on April 11 to raise awareness about the importance of protecting women's health during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postnatal period. Every woman has the right to access quality healthcare, adequate nutrition, skilled care, and a safe and dignified childbirth.
Social Development Foundation (SDF) works at the community level to promote awareness about maternal health and encourage women and families to seek timely healthcare services. The organization emphasizes institutional delivery, antenatal and postnatal care, prevention and management of anaemia through appropriate nutrition and Iron-Folic Acid supplementation, and access to family planning services. SDF also promotes awareness on the harmful consequences of child marriage, which can increase health risks for adolescent girls and young mothers.
Objectives
The major objectives of SDF's safe motherhood initiatives are:
- 1To promote access to appropriate and timely care during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postnatal period.
- 2To improve awareness and access to family planning and maternal healthcare services.
- 3To promote maternal nutrition and encourage regular antenatal and postnatal care.
- 4To encourage institutional deliveries and timely referral to appropriate health facilities.
- 5To create awareness among families and communities about the importance of maternal health and well-being.
