Line Sowing and Line Transplanting

Farmers have traditionally shown limited interest in paddy cultivation due to low productivity and inadequate returns. To address this challenge, the Foundation has accorded high priority to improving paddy production through the promotion of scientific and efficient cultivation practices.

Since 2013–14, the Foundation has been promoting line sowing and line transplanting of paddy in different villages of Banarpal, Talcher and Angul Blocks under the RKVY and State Plan programmes. The initiative covered approximately 1,500 hectares and benefited more than 1,500 farmers.

The Foundation has also continued to promote line sowing and line transplanting in Loisingha Block of Balangir District through a community-participatory approach. Farmers were encouraged to adopt improved methods of paddy establishment, with emphasis on proper spacing, systematic crop management and efficient use of available resources.

The adoption of line sowing and line transplanting has demonstrated better crop establishment and improved production compared with conventional methods of sowing. The approach also facilitates better field management and enables farmers to undertake agricultural operations more systematically.
